5 Musicians Who Died From a Drug Related Death

Each musician below has at least two things in common: They died from a drug related death and they knew what it meant to rock. These artists performed music that have long out lived their lives, remaining popular among rock ‘n’ roll listeners.

1. Jimi Hendrix 
November 27, 1942 - September 18, 1970  Age: 27
The autopsy of Hendrix's death reports that he had drown from his own vomit as well as having taken nine prescription sleeping pills that may have prevented himself from waking up.

2. Bradley Nowell (Sublime)
Febuary 22, 1968 - May 25, 1996 Age: 28
Brad Nowell was found dead of a drug overdose by his bandmate, Bud Gaugh, just weeks before their European tour.

3. Hillel Slovak (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
April 13, 1962 - June 25, 1988 Age: 26
Hillel was a heroin addict who attempted to defeat the habit, but was unable to succeed and died from a speedball overdose.

4. Sid Vicious (The Sex Pistols)
May 10, 1957 - Febuary 2, 1979 Age: 21
Sid Vicious overdosed on heroin that was purchased by his mother while released on a bail after being accused of murdering his girlfriend, Nancy Spungen.

5. Janis Joplin 
January 19, 1943 - October 4, 1970 Age: 27 
Janis lived on the edge, but her dangerous lifestyle led her to overdose on heroin.
